Cooking Rice and Side Dishes the Lazy BUT Healthy (and FAST) Way

Sadly, I don't have any fresh pictures for this post (I do have this recycled one though from one of my previous posts). But I would just like to share a very interesting way of cooking. I am most certainly sure that it's not novel, but I'd just like to share the convenience it can offer :)

What I like to do if I get lazy to cook side dishes (lauk pauk) separate from the rice, is by dumping EVERYTHING in the automatic rice cooker... then just let the machine do its magic! :)

Like today, Alhamdulilllaah, myself and the wife enjoyed Chicken Rice Ala Troxion with Chillies, Potatoes, Garlic and Ginger... topped up with tomatoes for a bit of volume and also sourness :) ... Not only did it turn out perfect (mainly due to some algorithm in the rice cooker :P)... all the flavors and colors of the spices and ingredients blended in nicely with the rice... Sedap pon sedap. And above all... very2 Cepat one. So so fast and hassle free :)

Curry Korma Rice with Potatoes, Tomatoes and Spices
(masak kat asrama Restu ngan Azrul Hazri Jantan)

Normally, for dishes like this, I'd firstly wash the rice (standard procedure), add some water to the desired level... then add in the ingredients such as garlic, red/white onions, some meat/chicken/fish, sauces (fish, oyster, kicap/toyu/soy, tomato or even chili... etc.). Then maybe some salt and pepper, a bit of chicken or vegetable stock... and if I have them, add in cinnamon, bunga lawang and bijik pelaga :) If desired, I add some other stuff to add taste such as curry or korma powder, and some turmeric :) ... But basically, let your creative mind go free :) But of course, normally, when ure malas, not much ingredients are available. So bubuh saja la what U think can satisfy your palette at the time :D

Anywayz, I find that this way of cooking is not only easy, but also quite healthy... not to mention again... very2 fast one :D Normally, the end product turns out looking something like oil-less nasik goreng :D And most of the time, mimics the nasik tomato or nasik minyak look served at malay weddings...

Anywayz... kot2 la anyone yg belum pernah try this style of cooking,. Can try it out!!! And if you guys or gals come up with any interesting recipes.... please do tell me :D

Oraitey.... Happy Eating and Cooking!

5 Mackerels... and a Semi-Violent Thunder Storm

Just came back from our latest fishing trip at Tuas Yan...
We are so thankful to Allaah because of 2 things:

1) We were not capsized by the storm that (seriously) so suddenly and so quickly came
2) The bounty of Mackerels, all of which are WHOPPERS!

Anywayz, trip started out as usual... with myself and Azrul waking up in the wee hours of the morning (3:25 am). Freshened ourselves up right after waking, and pushed off for breakfast (at Subaidah de Kedai Mamak) at around 4:00am. Then, made our way out of Penang Island via the Penang Bridge at around 4:45am. Reached Yan Kedah at around... 6:25am? I think (Oh, stopped for a while at Gurun Tol for some 'business') :D

Trip was cut short because a Storm suddenly came out of no where. We couldn't make a run to shore because of 3 things:

1) Shore was too fay away (45-mins to 1-hour normal speed boat ride)
2) If the waves and wind caught up with us, the boat will almost definitely be capsized
3) No where to latch on to if caught in the middle of the storm. At least, by not going anywhere, we'd be "safely" tied to the bamboos at the Tuas...

Storm came at about 1:00pm. Boat rocked quite violently... Myself and Azrul were quite frightened because it was our first time. But when seeing the other more experienced members still laughing and fishing... our minds were set (a bit) at ease. Alhamdulillaah, it did not worsen for if not, I don't think I'd be writing this entry today :P hehehehe... anywayz.... Had to back at around 2:30++pm, as the other boats were heading home as well. Trip home took around 2 hours ++, as the tekong had to maneuver the boat thru rocky sea conditions... Annywayz...

We managed to bag 5-mackerels. All of which were WHOPPERS, as I mentioned earlier. The biggest one being around... 8 kilograms ++ I reckon? Quite a lengthy and heavy bugger as it proved to be, as we carried the dead animal 10-floors up the desasiswa Restu stairs... ok... bukan stairs la... we took the lift of course :D

Had to bring it there first, because the fish needed to be distributed among me and Azrul (half half laa). Dissected the fish in the hostel shower room (on the wash area :P). Of course, we cleaned the place up good after the bloody process. Azrul took his part to a friend's fridge outside USM, while I brought it home to Nibong Tebal, where my lovely wife expressed-ly prepared what turned out to be quite a delectable meal! :D Sayaaang bini aku :) hehehehe.

Anywayz... here are some pics. Enjoy!!!

Oh... and in case some want to know, here are the details for a typical fishing trip to Tuas Yan, Kedah.

Boat rental: RM450 (normally lah...)

Kekejaman!!! Hehehehe. No lah... Removal of the innerds and gills are obligatory tasks. A dirty job, but someone has to do it :P

Liverpool Menang 5-0 Pulak Kali Ni... Alhamdulillaah.

(Steven Gerrard celebrated his first Premiere League Hat Trick)

Okey. Last nite... ok ok. Before night time... in the afternoon till after asar, I sorta put my malas cap on, and slept from somewhere after zuhr until around 4:30pm. This was in Bangi. Then, felt fresh to drive back to Penang, which I bertolak-ed from Bangi at around 6:00pm, and arrived safely Alhamdulillaah in Nibong Tebal around 11:o0pm (stop semayang n makan japs).

So, back to last nite... :) I was segar bugar la. Was not planning to be segar bugar, but was segar bugar anywayz. So, could catch the match between Liverpool and Aston Villa lah :) Match start pukul 12:00am gitu... and whoa wallaweh waratung klup singko rohoya... Liverpool sekarang sudah dasat la main. I saw a great improvement in their game. Passing of the ball was good. Defense was strong... Steven Gerrard and Riera were... mak datuk, superb! Cuma Torres je tak berapa nak shine semalam. Tapi takpe... he forced a penalty! (even though I thought Brad Friedel did not deserve that RED CARD... a yellow card at most!).

Wannywayz... ended up... 5-0! Melampau la Liverpool sekarang. Syabbash! Syabbash! My team has won again. And with a quite redundantly-excellent scoreline! :D And, Man U is also helping a bit, by losing to Fullham 2-0, with Rooney and Scholes (the keeper wannabe?) being sent off... Also... Chelsea... The blues... thank you also for falling at Spurs :)

There still is hope for Liverpool insyaAllaah. And may they win this year. Keep up the good work oh Anfield greats! Just don't be too snobbish la... cuz snobbish2 ni lama2 akan fall down.... selamaaat.....

I am 7.7 million dollars rich!!! Thank you Mr.Marck...

Since I have no idea on what to blog (due to P-P, which is short for PhD Pressure), I will share with you an email that "will" make me rich beyond my wildest dreams!!! YABE DABE DOOO bak kata omputeh zaman batu.

"My attorney", Mr. Marck Walsh, just informed me that I am inheriting a fortune. And, I'd better believe him, because he's an attorney... From LONDON! I mean, you gotta believe a Mat Salleh rite? Anyway, just in case any of you want to meet me later this month, I will be on my yacht... sailing the seas of the carribean islands. USD7.7 million dollars... Hmmmm. What else to do than just buying a (small of course) yacht? Hmmmmm.... Ok la. Think I'll put one some new sport rims for my Kelisa. That'll be the icing on the cake :D hehehehe....

Ok ok. On a more serious note... of course la. I will not be USD... or even RM7.7 million richer yet... (ada harapan tu :P). Of course also, I am talking about those scam emails that some people still, unfortunately fall for. For the case of this post, the scam I got was very2 clear. Too short and not even convincing! Nak kelentong duit berjota2 pon tak nak buat bebetul. Apa laa ini olang. Please refer to figure 1 (macam tulis paper konfrens pulak refer2 to figure...):

Figure 1: Scam email promising 7.7 million

Just thinking la... what can they do with my phone number ek? Call me ka and convince me even more? Hmmm. Maybe. Nak try ke? :P hehehehe....

But I also do realize, that there are longer versions of this kind of thing. And ones that are a little bit more convincing also got lots. We got the Nigerian thinggy, the Iraqi woman thinggy, other-inheritance-from-some-rich-person thinggy... and I suspect, in the days and years and decades to come... there will be other scam thinggies promising $$$ for everyone. And I bet U Me... the later ones are gonna higher level in the quality of FITNAH :) Better "reward" structure, and a more convincing punch line! Something closer to the quality of Dajjaal I'd think. Hehehehe...

With all this said and written... would just like to share based on experience and knowledge... that there is no free lunch. Every one knows that kan... No one (who you don't know, especially) will want to give away money... or a house, or even a boat to sail the Caribbean seas for that matter... for free! Unless of course, U're uncle or dad or grand father or whoever related to you put U in his/her will... then lain la (if dat happens, I would like to get free money from you if you don't mind. Hua hua hua! But as loan laaa... no interest one :P). It is just too absurd.

Why I say this, is because there was a case in 2006 kalau tak silap (or was it early 2007)... a PHD holder, from one of the public unis, got conned of a few hundred thousand of her hard earned cash (I think it was a 'she'). Fell prey to one of those Nigerian email scams if I remember correctly. Manyak kesian ooo. Donno for what reason, she beleived the thing. And went all the way to give away the $$$. BUT... still... Maybe she had her reasons la. Maybe time tu was a difficult part in her life, and probably also, she was mentally vulnerable. Wallahua'lam. May Allaah help her thru her turmoil (for I am sure that the incident is haunting her still... mentally, and financially).

Wannnywayz... Let us all pray to Allaah, that we don't fall prey to any of these scams... or can they be called Fitnah's also? Aku ni men bantaai je guna perkataan ni. Hehehehehe...

Okes. Apa2 pon... arigato for reading :D

LIVERPOOL 4 - 1 MANCHESTER UNITED

Alhamdulillaaah. Something yg mmg jarang berlaku dalam donia bola sepak Inggeris! Manchester United, get's their a#@e kicked on their own turf! I mean, losing 4-1 (against Liverpool) at their home ground Old Trafford, must'a been a real blow to Ferguson, and the rest of the team. I mean... FOUR ONE. Banyak gol tu :[

But anywayz, I am happy :) As a Liverpool fan, I am truly truly happy. 4-1 is a hard to believe scoreline. And again, I have to repeat... against one of the best teams in the world, and on their home ground! Liverpool showed their grit last night. Even though I didn't give them high hopes for the match against Man U... Liv showed their stuff and performed :) Bagush bagush :D
I am truly ecstatic. Still sucking in the 4-0 win against Real Madrid. But a 4-1 demolition of Man U is a dream come true. :) Syabbas Liverpool... Syabbas :D

Annywayz... looking at the bigger picture. Liverpool still has to struggle to become number one. IF... they continue to show the same form till the end of the season, with the hope that Man U will flop one or two of their matches... then, they can be the Barclay's English Premiere League champions! But since the season is almost drawing to a close... this might just be a too difficult task to perform. Especially to ask Man U to flop after this... I see that mostly unlikely. Man U jarang2 flops... and once they do, they'd be looking back at their errors, and correcting all the stuff that went bad.

But anywayz... :D Liv has WON! And I am a happy fan now... I am really2 happy. Again, I am going to suck all of this in while it lasts :D All da best for the rest of the season my club! Bravo!!!

LIVERPOOl! YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE!!! :D

Liverpool 4 - 0 Real Madrid --> Didn't know it would come down to this

Alhamdulillaaah :) Liverpool has pulled it off again! And what a surprising scoreline! FOUR NILL!!! Man, I could never imagine this scoreline. Now it's confirmed... BORO are better than Real :P(refer to this post's title) hehehehe....

Steven Gerrard struck twice after the opener from Fernando Torres. Then, Dossena (who dat?) scored his first ever Liverpool goal in the dying minutes... What a night for the merseysiders :) What a night for ANFIELD!!!

Good for Torres as he's playing and scoring again. With Stevie G and Torres on the field, it's difficult for Liverpool not to perform. Especially when both are playing at their full potentials!

I'm just gonna suck all this in while it lasts. Cuz I think by now, everyone knows Liverpool. Mcm Chipsmore dia nye konsistensi. One minute they're the best team in the world, the next minute they're losing to Sanguesepese (don't even ask me what league that team's in :P).

But nonetheless, a very2 good win. Very2 good game (I think, cuz I got this news from my fren's SMS). Very2 good result over all!!! Okes. Bravo for the excellent show oh my team :D

LIVERPOOL!!! YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE!!!

After my Thursday Seminar Presentation - Relating to my PhD work of course...

phd

Assalaam aleykom WBT...

Thought of writing down what I think I should do after receiving comments regarding a presentation I did last Thursday...

  1. Table-ize (men-table-kan :P) all the literature that I've referred to in order to come up with my current work: For LITERATURE and MOTIVATION purposes (and also for hypothesis writing...)
  2. Find a way to convey the crystallized idea of my work. I think... I have formed that crystal... but it is in a very2 rough condition, and needs a lot of polishing to show it's sparkle! SPARKLE ON OH CRYSTAL BALL!!!
  3. Do 1 and 2 first! Hahahaha! Cannot do too much at one time... I will definitely lose focus and start to think of fishing :D Which, insyaAllaah I and Azrul will be doing somewhere this month.
So this is what I will be doing relating to my PHD work. My PHD by the way, is turning out to be a 'systems' sort of PHD...  might also be similar to what SERVICE SCIENCE, MANAGEMENT and ENGINEERING (SSME - currently being promoted by IBM) is all about... I think...

Okes. Let's table-ize the work of past giants! Mostly giants from China, China-USA, Spanish and also Singaporeans. None from Malaysia though... where to find eh? Or am I looking in the wrong places? (Already looking thru Engineering Village, IEEE, ACM and Elsevier....)

Orait. Bye2 :D Assalaam aleykom WBT...

Watchmen 2009 - Review by jawatroxion

I am keeping my promise from my previous post :D

Watched Watchmen :)

I must firstly say that the fighting scenes were quite good. Fast paced and each bad guy (or good) ends up being beaten up rather dramatically.

But in all, I found the movie a bit dragging... but dragging at an  above average level la. So that's kinda ok la kot. Sort'a like Lord of The Rings type dragging... you know what I mean? Like... there's not much  UNexpected action happening... and most of the things you can expect to happen... but at the same time, it's not boring :D Ada faham ka? (macam apa aku tulis masa dok chat tadi ngan Mas je? hahahahaha!)

Anywayz... kira ok jugak la kot. But tak la sampai me jumping off my seats! Some parts busan gak. Tapi not much :)

One thing though... there's this Dr. Manhattan character. Mamat ni, he has no clothes on. Why? Because in a sense, he is not hhuman. So, the buns are exposed for a great dael of the movie. And, I don't know... but the "front organ" macam kena blur. Is that cencorship in action? Or mmg the movie macam tu... Ntoh le.

But I know he's actually wearing a suit... that is made to look like this perfectly toned muscular physique. But nonetheless, it's very detailed, and the buns are clearly buns. I think because he's blue in color from head to toe, so blue buns are not included in the censor list... :P

Okes. Movie was over 2.5 hours... The twist (for me), was kinda expected. Actors? Hehehehe... good ones, but I only recognize one of them (the blue guy). Lain2, tak kenai! I tot grade B actors, but turned out they've acted in high profiles movies before!

Markah? Ntoh le. Macam lazy to give marks. But since I am insisting upon myself... so I gif 6.57/10 :D Ok la tu kot ek?

Syabbas Inspector Sahaab....

Watchmen - Now Showing In Cinemas

Will GSC saman me for copying this pic off their website?

Alhamdulillaahirobbil'aalameen...

I've just finished my Thursday seminar session. Talked about my current PhD research progress. It went quite ok considering my lack of preparation. I got some very2 useful and interesting feedback and tips, especially from Dr. Rosalina, Dr. Waffa as well as my beloved supervisor Dr. Mandava Rajeswari :D

Anywayz, as usual, I waited to the (almost) very last minute to prepare my slides. Ended up making around 80++ slides for my presentation. Maybe the fonts were a bit big. And it's been like, three sleepless nights... Aiyo gazambo. I will truly... not underestimate slide-making, ever again! HIAH KARATE!!! Anywayz... :)

Now I want to go tengok movie. The movie ticket, I've already purchased online from GSC. And the cinema of choice is at Queensbay Mall, Penang. Well... not to say cinema of choice la... but since that's the only choice I have here. Paling dekat, and got arcade that houses my favorite tennis game... POWER SMASH 2!!! Hiah! Cuma takde Federer la. It is like... since 2001-02? or 03? Quite old. They have Power Smash 3... but takde orang install lagi pon kat Mesia ni? Anywayz... I am penat. And I need to unwind a bit. Just hope tak tertidoq kat cinema :D

Okes. Watchmen. I came across the website a few weeks ago. Found it after going to the Apple Movie Trailer web page I think?  Seems like an interesting movie. With superheroes and what not. And not to mention the movie involves lots  of "300" people :) Producers, and... sapa lagi ntah.

I will insyaAllaah write a review after selesai me-nengok this movie.

Watchmen... tapi ada woman gak sorang... ke dua... ntah? Patot dia tukar nama geng tu jadik WatchPerson lah... or... Watch-Men-Women-Both... :D

Sudirrmaaaaan....

BOYCOTT: The test is greater for others.

Chemical Weapon Victim in Ghaza. And they were looking for the stock piles of WMD at Saddam's house... Sheeesh...

(A good read for Malaysians at my bro's blog HERE)

In Malaysia, we're urged to boycott many western products that have links to the Zionist government of Israel. Famous brands such as McDonalds, KFC, Tesco and even Kit Kat has been named as products or services to be boycotted (is there such a word?). And cigarettes... that goes without saying! (Even Sampoerna has links somehow; I hear lah... from an Indonesian buddy... Gudang Garam takpe dia orang kata... for that's fully Indon made).

Well, I for one agree with this. We should try, to our best of capabilities, and avoid such products and services. Seriously, you won't die by not eating a Big Mac for the rest of your life. And Kit Kat has never been a healthy part of any nation's balanced diet! So, I think it's quite easy for use to avoid these... 'treats' of life :) If the craving's too powerful... substitute! Go for teh tarik at a mamak stall? Or make ure own burger! Just mince some meat, along with some herbs and spices... salt... peppah!.. make it into a patty... and VOILA! A burger is created... of course have to cook first lah, unless U are a true carnivore :)

But at the same time, I also realize the great many people who have their very livelihoods at stake. For instance, Muslims... who before, did not know (like many of us) about these ties to Zion. Inspiring entrepreneurs trying to make it big in the franchise business. Decided to open up a McDa's (this is how Ozzi's pronounce it), and yeahoo!!! The bucks are coming in. For these people, yes it will be hard. Very HARD as a matter of fact. Because, how do you boycott your income stream that has been feeding yer family for the past... i dunno... 10-30 years? And not to mention the great lifestyle that these people have grown accustomed to from their hard earned cash....

It's easy for me... a govt... well, semi- govt. servant to say. I am not incrementing my life's savings based on a franchise... or by managing a hypermarket chain that has ties to suku sakats of Ariel Sharon :( .... So... I also dunno la. How to say :( For the normal workers... well... that should be no problem, because work at fast food chains for example, is normally part time. Even the managers aren't earning a bow-wow of an income at these places. So I think to berhenti is almost a no brainer (almost la... ada gak faktor2 lain). But for the owners... man, will it be hard. If I continue, I am a Zionist supporter in more ways than 1. If I stop... Aiya... how to feed mon famille?

But in the end, it's a test. Everything comes from Allaah. From the things that we would generally positively expect (such as $$$, food, cars, houses etc.), and also things that we would negatively expect (e.g. illness, business gone bad, accidents, divorce etc.). ALSO... are the things that we DONT expect :) Of course there are also the negatives and positives in this area also...

But back to the point where everything comes from Allaah. If the BIG PICTURE IS... to try and cripple the Zionist domination of the world... then I think the call should be accepted. This would mean to quit the profitable businesses... To stop any relation with any Zion based money making schemes etc. I realize the test is HUMONGOUS! COLOSSAL as a matter of fact. But as responsible Muslims... who really2 abhor what happened in the Gaza strip... we should take the challenge.

I for one... again realize that I am just talking here. Because it's not my livelihood at stake. And not the livelihood of my family members. I am for one (and I am not saying this with joy), am a bit glad this responsibility, this test, has not fallen on me. I am only responsible to play my small role of avoiding products and services that I know have links to Israel, and also possibly other actions that can contribute to my not supporting them. But for big businesses owned by Muslims, who know they are owned by the bad Jews... the test is heavy. Really heavy. To stop working means a lot.

But then again, there are other things that can be done. I mean... like many rich people say, Rezeki ada di mana mana :) And one rich man once said, there's a TON of money out there... you just gotta know how to get it :D So, maybe for those affected... boleh try to do something else? I dunnno. I really dunno what to rekemen. But what I do know... the support must stop.

I think a worth remembering note is that... God tests the best of us with the heaviest of tests... Hmmmm....

A word of inspiration though... God is fair. God gives to those who deserve... those who have sacrificed... for those who go on the right path... God's reward will be there... and most of the time, it's from the Positive Unexpected part :) insyaAllaah...

okes... selamat :D

Middlesboro are better than Real Madrid!!!

As usual, I rembatted this image... Taken from

Hahaha... I know the topic is not a valid statement, because I haven't considered all the other unseen variables in football. But, as a pissed-off fan (hey, I have every right to be), I can only say that. After a splendid show down in Spain (click to goto previous post)... Liverpool have lost at home (well, even though playing away, it's home, as in England as compared to the Bernebeu, Spain...). And they lost to Boro :( Moddlesboro, a team that is not fancied at all to lift the English Premiere League... even in the next 25-years!... I think lah :P

For this match... yeps... I stayed up. And since it kicked off at around 11:00pm, it was not that much of an effort. As usual, I did not put high hopes for a big win. At least a draw... But a 2-0 scoreline? Aiyaaa.... Anfield has indeed seen another red-(faced) day. It all started with a (very2 tak sengaja) own goal by Xabi Alonso... but hey, that's ok. He really2 couldn't do anything about it. But a second goal? :( Sigh... I didn't see it... who needs to when Ure team has gone down 2 to ZIT! Nod out of MULUS! :P

Anywayz... just a post to vent out my frustration. Not to say that I'm totally dissapointed... I will insyaAllaah still be a Liverpool fan. But please oh my team, give us at least a longer period for happy moments :D

Okes. Cheerios!

LIVERPOOL! YOU STILL... WILL NEVER WALK ALONE :D
