Update Regarding HALAL Status of Prostar 100% Whey Protein (and also Prostar Whey Protein) - Only NATURAL flavor is Halal for consumption by Muslims

[click on the image to view at Amazon.com]
(Previous post was also about the same issue...)

Assalaam aleykom WBT :) Just received the reply email from the representative at Ultimate Nutrition. The question was about whether or not the other flavours of their Prostar Whey Protein line (both the 100% Whey Protein and just the plain Whey Protein) were halal. I have to say that, the representative responded in lightning speed time :D Thank you very2 much for the excellent customer service (even tho I am not a customer, yet... :P)

The questions and answers were:

QUESTION-1:
It seems that in the certificate you gave me, it says that halal certification is only given for the Prostar 100% Whey Protein (both 2 and 5 pounds). I was wondering,... does this certification cover all the flavors? (e.g. choco, vanilla, natural etc.)...

ANSWER-1:
No, only the natural is covered at this time.

QUESTION-2:
Another question is regarding the product itself. It seems that in Malaysia... EGOnutrition is selling Prostar Whey Protein, and NOT Prostar 100% Whey Protein. Are these actually the same products? Because if so, then the halal certification should cover both.

ANSWER-2:
The Prostar Whey Protein is our old formula, and it was previously covered by Halal at the time of it’s production, we have since released the new Prostar 100% Whey Protein as a replacement. The old certificate is attached for the original formula.
(You can view the certificate for the old product below...)

Well... there you have it :D

Now at least we know from both Ultimate Nutrition and IFANCA that only the NATURAL-ly flavoured PROSTAR 100% WHEY PROTEIN and also the PROSTAR WHEY PROTEIN are halal protein for  consumption. Other flavours... as of now... I think we can consider to be doubtful... or to be safe... just simply haram :) I hereby declare (for myself lah... based on my research) that consumption of Halal Protein Powder... specifically Halal Whey Protein Powder is possible, Alhamdulillaah... with the presence of such products from Ultimate Nutrition :D

I found out that you can get the product on Amazon.com. Below is the link... just be sure to double check it's the NATURAL flavor and not the other flavors.

Anywayz... hope this information has benefitted everyone. Assalaam aleykom WBT :) Let us all work together to provide resources for halal protein/halal whey protein/halal protein supplements... insyaAllaah.

Assalamualaikum..

Hope u r in da best of health..Insya Allah..:)

I was searching da web on Halal whey protein n such n chanced upon ur blog Alhamdulillah..

I just got a whey protein product (True Mass from BSN) online here fr spore n realised dat its not halal..It contains monoglyceride n di-glycerides..i was wary n mailed bsn..they replied promptly n said dat none of their protein products r suitable for vegans or vegetarians..i have to therefore sell it away..

so now, i have a another situation, trying to find another halal protein/whey product..I noticed dat in 1 of ur blogs, u printed out da Infanca product list Ultimate Nutrition deems halal..so here is da question i hope u can help me with - as da local website here do not have the Prostar Whey dat u talk abt but do have the Muscle Juice 2544, can it be safe for me to consume this product then??

Thank you Alfian for your time..Assalamualaikum..:) Hope to hear fr u..:)

Yg Benar,
zaki..

Ok. I'm back :)

I just surfed the Egonutritions website (Malaysian)... and on the website : http://egonutritions.com/shopping/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=441 it provides information about the Prostar Whey Halal Protein :)

InsyaAllaah, it should be available since its on their website... I think Egonutritions deliver to your house via courier... you place and order and then allow a few days (Or is it weeks? :P)... and I think the delivery charge is somewhere around RM12....

So I think you can go to the website address that I provided. Dont worry, its not an affiliate link, so I'm not making any $$ here. hahaha! Oh! BTW, IFANCA only gave halal for the NATURAL flavor. So if you wanna buy. then buy the natural flavour.

As for the Muscle Jiuce... I see it available at the Egonutritions website also.... but make sure its the Choco or VAnilla flavors only, as those are the only ones I see having IFANCA certification (based on the cert on my blog post la)....

Anywayz... hope this has helped. As if you've oredi contacted Ego, and dia orang kata takde... then I think I am out of ideas oredi. hehehe

anywayz, syabbas becuz ure looking for halal stuff. some of my frens just ignore halal when it comes to protein powder, cuz they say "How can milk me haram?"...

Waalaikum Salam Alfian,

Thank u so much 4 replying so promptly.. :)

After i post a comment in your thread, I actually went to Ultimate Nutrition's website..da brand dat carries muscle juice...they actually state dat their chocalate flavour is halal!! :) Alhamdulillah.. Dat surprises me actually dat n American product is sensitive to us Muslims' needs.. :)So now have Ifanca n their own site dat affirms dat it is truely halal..dah tak was was lagi..:)

I really appreciate it so much but i dun think its necessary for u to contact Egonutritions...terima kasih lah byk byk 4 da usaha..baik awak..semoga Allah balas jasa awak:)

To clarify, I actually visited a spore nutrition website,TSW, n not Egonutrition..TSW n another spore website both dun have Prostar Whey Protein but both have Muscle Juice..:)

Anyway, I have oredi ordered my Muscle Juice fr TSW n I'm expecting it 2 b delivered 2 my place tomor..:)

I think da issue can b closed Alfian...Terima kasih lah byk byk..Happy training Alfian..

Just curious, wat protein powder r u using??:)

Salaam Zaki.

Bagus lah kalau dah dapat beli UN Muscle Juice tu :)

Ok jugak macam ni, because now I can later blog about another online distributor of UN products :)

Last time I trained (for fat loss n just to get in shape that is) using non halal products (as I discovered la). Among them were GNC 100% Whey Protein, AST VP2 [x ada kat malaysia, I used that masa kat Australia), and also Optimum Nutrition....

But as of now, dah lama tak train... due to some reason2 yg tak boleh nak dielakkan :D hehehe. but when I do restart my engines, I will use Prostar la kot (as the fat content is lesser than Muscle Juice, n I am not interested to bulk yp yet)

ANywayz, jut nak tanya, kot2 U know any place I can find online info about building a home gym?

tq tq :D

Zaki said...

Assalamualaikum Alfian..

Wa Alaikum Salam..Hehehehe...i actually have no idea how to set up a home gym Alfian..:)

Sebenarnye, saye baru nak manje2 nak naik kan badan...heheh..wanna find out how i'll look n find out how da whole procedure of training for muscle build is like...heheheh..I'm actually doing wit a non muslim friend who is more well versed in da matter than me.. :)

Actually ders a good thing dat comes out from here...i get 2 noe u..r u residing in KL rite now??how can we communicate other than thru dis blog?? :)

Anyway, UN actually emailed me in a jiffy n attached da halal IFANCA list..:)Alhamdulillah..

Assalamu A"laykum Brothers in Islam!

Jazakallah Khayr for all this wonderful info!

I had already email IFANCA a couple of hours back and then I stumbled upon this blog Masha Allah!

Does any1 have any updates on this..the halal certificates are still valid right?

May Allah Bless you!
Waslam!

Ahmad Javanese said...

Waalaikumsalaam brother Tom :)

I don't quite know whether the cert. is still valid or not. I think what you can do is to email the manufacturer directly. An maybe ask whether the ingredients they use are still the same. Or better still, ask them whether they will renew the halal certs :D

I found that I could get faster confirmation from them. And if they have a cert, then they could give it there and then. Maybe they have renewed, but it hasnt been reflected in the IFANCA databases yet? COuld be... :) Try to drop them an email :) Ma'assalaam

Assalamualaikum ..

Can I ask something .. can any1 recommend me a weight gainer product that is halal for us to consumed .?
and can u give me the link to buy the product online .? ty :)

Ahmad Javanese said...

Waalaikumussalaam Shopi.

Well, actually I dont know much about weight gainers... since Ive never used one be4. Moreover, Im naturally 'fat'... so I've never looked at weight gainers :)

However... from my experience and limited knowledge... weight gainers are not the answer if u plan to gain weight (the correct type of weight btw, which muscle and not fat). Main thing to do is

1) Calories in GREATER than Calories out
2) Proper workout (weights especially in ure case...) and rest
3) Proper nutrition

However, if you insist... I think the MuscleJuice product from UN seems to fit the bill... I think... But weight gainers shouldnt be solely taken. Couple it with good weight training and rest :) Then insyaAllaah Ull gain the weight :D

Unknown said...

i was looking for weight gainers that increase our weight by muscle not fat ..

and can u give some guide how to take daily food with high calorie intake .? TY

Ahmad Javanese said...

Assalaamualaikum Shopi :) Alfian sini from alfiantroxion.blogspot.com...

Just nak komen pasal weight gainer tu... Actually... (tak kira la sama ada guna makanan natural ke, supplement ke, meal replacements ke...) the basic rule for weight gain is
Calories In is lesser than Calories Out. Makna nya, apa yg kita makan kena lagi banyak dari jumlah tenaga yg kita guna... Oraits. tu rasa2 agak mudah utk difahami. Kesimpulannya, kalau cukup syarat kat atas tu... insyaAllaah badan kita akan membesar.

Cuma.... kalau nak membesar dari sudut lemak badan... kita makan calories in lagi besar dari calories out... TANPA working out. Makan makan makan... tapi tenaga tu tak digunakan utk apa2 sangat. Paling2 duduk dekat meja buat kerja, tengok TV, main komputer, surf internet, dan last sekali tidur.... Kalau mcm ni, kebarangkalian besar kita membesar secara menambahkan lemak badan :D Membesar cara ni saya rasa Sophi tak nak kan?

But of course, calories in tu kena cukup la utk pembesaran. Kalau tak cukup, simple... tambah lagi calories supaya cukup utk pembesaran.
Benda ni selalu bodybuilders try and error.

So basically cenngitu lah :D Sorry terpanjang sket tulis. tapi tu la basically kalau nak gain weight melalui otot dan bukan lemak :D Simple... but not easy :D

Oraits. harap2 membantu :D

SORRY... correction sket. Calories in MUST BE MORE than calories out :D

Assalaamualaikum Amirul :)

Glad you like the post. Alhamdulillaah, berguna jugak apa yg saya dok tulis ni. hehehehe.
Owh, now Julia is not in charge anymore ek? Maybe they changed personnel. Anywayz, as long as they keep getting updated halal certs, then ok la :)

BTW, actually they dont allow us to show the halal cert on any website :( Yang 2009 (kalau tak silap) I think terlepas tunjuk on one of my posts. But I asked Julia Brown about that, and she said tak perlu diturunkan :)

Anywayz... I am not a trainer. as a matter of fact, I've been struggling with my discipline since I started working out in 2001. Sampai sekarang not much results. I myself am not a skinny person... My goal is to lose fat :D But if ure interested, cuba tengok G-Force Gym. My fren runs it and he was kinda small back then. But now he's gained quite a lot in size. Maybe can check his gym out, kot2 its near to ure house?

again, thanks for reading ya :D

Hello,

Thank you for choosing Optimum Nutrition. Our 100% Gold Standard Whey is lacto-vegetarian friendly. The product does not contain any animal products or by-products save for the whey protein itself which is derived from dairy. The rennet used in the production of our protein is synthetically and/or fungally-derived. . Our main flavors; Vanilla Ice Cream, Double Rich Chocolate, Strawberry, French Vanilla Crème, and Extreme Milk Chocolate, which do happen to contain alcohol at one point in their flavor system process. It’s typical that even if a finished flavor does not contain alcohol, it was used as a solvent in the initial stages.

Hope this helps—best of health

and i asked again

---and they said

Even if any of the finished flavors do not contain alcohol, it was used in the solvent in the initial stages.

Ahmad Javanese said...

That's great to hear Anon! Actually alcohol in the sense that you mentioned is ok as in the Quran, God says that only 'khamr' (that's arabic, basically can be understood as alcoholic beverage and other similar intoxicants) is impermissible :)

Would appreciate any references to this tho. Do you have an email of someone at ON that we can possibly contact? Cheers!
