Arabic Market after Friday Prayers

Me and my MAHASHI
Assalaam aleykom WBT.

Today insya-Allaah, I will be writing in English. The main reason I am writing in English is because, I found that many English words (even the simple ones!) are starting to dissappear from my memory! I can't seem to translate simple Malay words to English... But that's OK. Insya-Allaah, with practise, all will come back :)

Ok. Now I will write about the Arabic Market or Arabic Stalls that pop up after every Friday prayers... Just like mushrooms after the rain, these arabic stalls will appear out of nowhere (ok... somewhere), and start selling their arabic goods :)

I for one, am a big fan of arabic food, particularly the Palastenian version of Mahashi... which is rice (with lots of some sort of oil... I'm guessing Olive!), wrapped in some sort of leaf (or onion or cabbage or brinjal). Other than Mahashi, these arabs also sell other stuff such as:
  1. Shanina - a type of yogurt drink... but tastes like spoilt milk. An acquired taste I'd say :)
  2. Arabic Briyani - not really briyani... but something like that :)
  3. Arabic Bread - two versions... RM2 for the ones that look like pizza dough, and RM2.50 for the ones looking like tortillas
  4. Olive Oil - RM13 for the 500ml mineral water bottle
  5. Pickeled Cucumber and Olives - These are quite expensive. RM6 and above!
  6. Chicken Sandwhich or Shawarma - RM2.50 a pop
  7. Falafel - Pea sandwhich with some tomatoes and potatoes
  8. Cheese stuff
  9. Yogurt stuff
  10. Soft drink that looks like BEER! - I never bought any of these... cuz the main company sells beer and other alcoholic beverages :(

And other stuff :)

But in all... I'd say there's a good diversity in product choices. But I also have to say... I'm not too crazy about the price :( A bottle of 500ml shanina costs RM2 now. Used to be RM1.50... A shawarma costs RM2.50, and even an arab guy I know says it's on the expensive side. Yogurt is RM6 (or more?)... and it's only a small container... And some other stuff are also quite dear... If you have a thick wallet (whcih I see the arabs have, based on their buying power of these stuffs)... then it's ok... but if not... you ought to just make this a Friday occassion :D

Annnywayz... here are a few pics of the Arab Market :D Layaaanzzz....

The crowd of arabs...
More arabians...
Barang2 jualan. Satu kotak ni RM5 minimum...
Yang ni jual shawarma (chicken sandwhich) dan lain2. Agak mahal... roti leper yg korang nampak tu RM1.50 satu...
Bagi mereka2 yg tak tau, air putih tu disangka soya bean (macam saya awal2 dulu). But that's the SHANINA!!! Like spoilt milk at first...
Olives and stuff... never bought any of these...
The other stuff... cookies and sweets etc.
Olive oil (in mineral water bottle) and drinks. That six pack sure does look like brewskis :P
Arabic bread - RM2
The slightly more expensive type - RM2.50

Dlyn: Yeous Dlyn... memang aku makan kadang2 makanan arab ni. Dan tidak, ianya tidak memenuhi piawai makanan sihat pasal banyak minyak, tinggi dalam garam dan juga terlalu packed in complex carbohydrates. hehehehe.
