Private Halal Certification

Was walking around JUSCO Bandar Perda (Penang darat area) one day with my family. This was way back when... I forget :) Anywayz, normally before eating at any of the eateries in any shopping complex, I'd make sure that they have halal certification. Normally, I'd be looking for the JAKIM or ASIA PACIFIC or SINGAPORE halal seal. But on the outside wall of one particular restaurant, I saw one halal sign without anybody's seal around it (the picture above). But there was a phone number, and the name SAS-H CONSULTANTS Sdn. Bhd. At first I thought they were sticker makers :P But then, I also thought they could be the people who actually certified this restaurant as being halal.

As many know, I am now still doing my PhD... and as many PhD do-ers know, there is always something better to do than PhD related work... heheheh. So I took the initiative to call these people. One relatively polite (Malay I think) gentleman picked up the phone... and basically told me that they are a private organization that provides halal certification. Of course I menyamar la to be someone interested to get certification. Based on what he told me regarding the procedures, it seemed quite valid :) He also mentioned an auditing process before the final certification can be given.

Alhamdulillaah, now I have another halal logo that I can possibly trust. Hopefully they do proper work la... because if cincai2 only to give halal certification, then susah la... who to trust anymore nowadays in a world dominated by the RM/DOLLAR/REN MIMBI/RUPIAH/KRONER/POUND STERLING/EURO sign? :D

Okes... I end this post with some halal plates :D [never knew halal signs existed for plates... ]... Assalaam 'aleykom.

Pork Free does not mean Halal :D

Yesterday, I called this one place to inquire about the halal status of the food they served. My friend was going to hold a celebration thinggy, and I and a few friends were invited. I of course couldn't make it since I have to standby 24/7 for the wifey to beranak... Tapi, some of my frens might be going, so I reckon a quick ask won't hurt as I didn't want them to go without being 'warned'... (in case haram laaa...)

The place was a Chinese establishment... somewhere in the Gardens, Mid Valley. Got the number thru the internet and managed to speak to a Chinese girl. I changed my English slang a bit, making it sound a bit alien (British + Aussie... I think :P)... because I found out that by doing this, people would think I'm a foreigner and treat me more seriously :P Works you know... sometimes la :P

Anywayz, I politely asked the Chinese girl a few questions... and finally gave her the big question of halal certification (or basically who is giving the halal claim for their food?)

Alfian: "I was just wondering, is there any certification for the halal food that you are serving for the buffet dinner?"

Girl: "Oh... Mmmmm... We have rice, chicken... bla bla bla" --> She was giving me the menu

Alfian: "No no... I don't want the menu. I need to know about the halal certification..."

Girl: "Oh! Our buffet dinner... we don't have that (certification). We only serve NORMAL halal food!"
[Aiyo? When did the ulamaks come up with normal and abnormal halal food? :P Clearly, this girl has the slightest idea of what halal or haram is... ]

Alfian: "Oh, no no. I think you must have misunderstood me. I mean, do you have any certification for the food you serve. I am not asking for the menu. I want certification... Do you have any from JAKIM, or maybe even IFANCA (that was indeed a long shot :P) ...?"

Girl: "Wait ah..."

- the waiting song plays in my ears -

A Man: "Yes sir? What is it?" - this stupid guy had very bad PR....

Alfian: "Hi there. I was wondering from whom you are getting the halal certification ? For you buffet dinner that is..."

A Man: "Oh, halal a? Here halal..."

Alfian: "Are you sure? Then can you please tell me about the certification? Since I plan to bring some people over to your place, and they are very particular about this issue... thanks"

A Man: "Here is pork free. It is not halal, but pork free...."

Alfian: "Oooh. Pork free... ok then. Thank you..."

A Man: - just put down the phone.... -

Alfian: [Dalam hati... ku'ang hajau... tak lajau nak cakap elok2 ke? Lahabau Bahawau Makau Di Pinggau Minum Di Cawau.... heheheheh. Ni Melaka broken, jgn mara aa :P]...

Anywayz... that was the case :D Even though I sorta KNEW that it was gonna be HARAM to begin with, just had to ask... KOT KOT laaa... who knows, nowadays we have non-Muslims who actually know what halal really means, and have taken the initiative to get certificaion from JAKIM ka, ASIA PACIFIC ka.... or mana mana ka. But alas not for this particular place.... NORMAL halal? Gimme a break!!!

But (sometimes) I don't blame them. I don't think they ever publicly claimed to be halal (except for that not so smart girl I talked to... "Normal HALAL!!!"... That's a first for me.....). They don't even know what halal is! (most of the non-Muslims that is...) But it's actually some of US Muslims who just assume everything is halal as long as it's pork free!!! Or when somebody says its halal, then they just accept by using the 'tawakal' card... That's more ignorance than anything else...

As for my friend who is recommending the place, he/she says that it is halal because.... his/her company always goes there... Hmmm... I really thought I should have told him/her that it's not a strong enough reason to even consider stepping foot into a non-Muslim eatery [furthermore, it's a Karaoke place... :'( ...] ... But since I myself am not sure how to delicately handle the situation... I just sorta told him/her to be careful... since pork free does not mean halal. Anywayz... I don't think he/she purposely wanted a non-halal place. Maybe he/she thought that just by simply asking, and getting the halal-nod (from a non-Muslim) was enough. Hope my message got thru to him/her tho... Need to be more scrupulous in these matters ye dok? :D

Itu lah kisah nya :D Some people might say that..."Don't be too strict!!! Nanti susah!!!" ...
I don't think this is being too strict. Come on, we're not in a state of emergency (DARURAT!!!). We are not in a position where if we don't eat something, we'd starve to death. Comparing HALAL_KEDAI_MAKAN_TEPI_JALAN to DAVE's DELI (whom I am not sure dah ada halal certification atau belum? Last time I checked takde lagi... kalau dah ada, plz correct me...)... you won't die or get gastritis if you don't eat the latter's foot-long sausage.... (ada ke? :P)....

So, I think putting a little effort in making sure what enters our belly is halal, is worth every penny/sweat/research methodology/internet browse etc :) Even though, yeah, sometimes we might get tricked by irresponsible people (e.g. like TESCO with it's chicken last time...), but at least we've done our best. And that's all Allaah wants us to give... our very best with what we have :D If we've done that insyaAllaah, He will guide us to the path that we are searching for :D

Wokeh, hope this post has been of some benefit.... Assalaam aleykom :D

A question (again) about saf

Assalaam aleykom WBT. Ok, I got my religious-cap on now, and want to write about solat in particular. I think I've written about this topic way back when (tak ingat...), but recently, after seeing some over the top violations in the masjids and suraus, I thought I'd highlight this issue again so that it would benefit anyone or everyone, insyaAllaah...

Again, it's the topic about the saf in solat.

Straightening the saf - I believe the shoulders must be aligned, as well as the back of the feet? ... yes, ankle... ankle kena align. Basically quite straight forward. But sometimes, I see some people who purposely misalign their feet after getting up from the first prostration (sujud)... Why ek? Maybe depa tak tau kot...

Leaving no gaps - Ok, I too have just recently discovered how close the saf should be. And surprisingly, it shocked me because I've never even seen the so called ahli-ahli surau or AJK AJK masjid or Orang2 Pusat Islam practice this. From what I've learnt (from Ummah Films, friends, as well as a downloadable article from Rasul Dahri's website), it's supposed to be TOE to TOE, SHOULDER to SHOULDER! (I am sounding like Baba Ali... hehehe). The way I've been taught is, at most shoulder to shoulder. Never heard of the toe to toe thinggy. But after learning a bit from here and there, and insyaAllaah from reliable sources... memang betul la. It has to be like the picture at the top of this post... But of course, hard to find, as Malaysians takut duduk rapat2. Maybe tak selesa, dan maybe jugak... tak tau :) Tapi got also those yg give 'intelligent' arguments macam "Masjid besar... so no need to rapat rapat :P".... Now this one is marang perapu keponten marang skeper.... :D

Anywayz... just thought I'd write about this mainly because of these pics I managed to catch. This was the second wave of jemaahs who didn't make it to the first 'installation' of the zuhr prayers :) A bit too far don't you think for a proper saf? I think I read somewhere, when the saf ain't tight, the devil passes thru it like a goat walking thru, ...something... don't remember the exact hadith. But U believe it was sahih? Alim people out there, plz correct me :)

Okes... just to share :D
If I have wronged in any way, please tegur and please correct me...

The Deen Show - A good interview regarding bid'ah (i.e. religious innovations)

(Please ignore any religious ads ya. Especially if any of those Scientology ads come up... tq)

Assalaam aleykom WBT.

Alhamdulillaah, just now I was fortunate enough to be led by Allaah to view a very interesting video. Actually I might be a bit behind, because I just found out about this show (baru dapat access YouTube secara open :P)... Anywayz, this Eddie guy is doing a good job educating Old Muslims (default value... as in born into Islam), New Muslims, Non Muslims and whatever, regarding our beautiful religion...
Anywayz...

Just viewed a video regarding innovations... or widely known as bid'ah/bidaah. The link to the video is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA92oxF9Bm8 ... and I really2 recommend viewing. It's an interview with Sheikh Yasin Qadhi (has a US slang... American I guess). One of the most informative and LOGICAL talks I've ever heard about bid'ah... and I also got to realize it danger for our religion, as well as for ourselves (could be a faster way to HELL!!! Don't want that)...

So, please do go and have a look (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BA92oxF9Bm8). And since we're Malaysians... consider these:
  1. Reading Yaa-sin every Thursday night,
  2. Collective wirid and doa after prayers,
  3. Qunut during Subuh (I know this sounds weird... even I myself am researching this. And at the moment, it doesn't seem to be favouring the culture that's been so dominant in Malaysia... as well as some other parts of the world)
  4. Maulidurasul (to me... this is very2 terang a bad thing... as we get pop artists to sing nasyid-like songs... clear, but to many still blur...)
  5. All those reading and salawat in beteween tarawih rakaats...
  6. etc.

Anywayz... Am not saying I'm an expert. I am sooo not!... But lately I've been realizing that many a things that we've so used to doing... seems to be a bit weird at times. So this has led me to do some research...

Anywayz... I pray to Allaah that we are all shown the way... and in the end get a one way ticket to Jannah :D insyaAllaah... okes. Go and tengok the video :D

Breaking Fast @ Seoul Garden JURU

Assalaam aleykom...

Today, my pregnant wife had a 'mengidam' attack. Suddenly she wanted to eat steamboat!!! Luckily she didn't crave anything like football boots with curry, roti naan with zinc or even a compact disc in BBQ sauce :P Hehehe... Of course, ini semua exaggeration saja la :D Wannywayz... at the beginning I wasn't that keen on going. Because for one thing, it's gonna be a hassle to drive all the way to JURU just to buka puasa. The other thing is that the wife is pregnant 4-months ++... and I'd like to avoid crowded places due to the H1N1-virus. But it seems that me luvly wife is not budging from her decision. Dia nak gak makan Seoul Garden :D Okes la... I will attend to her needs. She's buying anyway. Hua hua hua!!!

Anywayz, it's been quite some time since I ate at Seoul Garden. Last time I ate there was for my 'farewell' dinner when I was going to do my PhD at UNSW, Australia. And that was somewhere in June or July 2006. Two things happened... the FOOD WAS GREAT!!! ... and I also came back from Sydney within 2-months cuz tak ngam ngan supervisor. Hehehe... So the meal ended up not being a farewell dinner after all. LOL!

Okes. So tonite, insyaAllaah after a small iftar (maybe tamar and some water?), and after marghrib prayers, we will head on to this Korean establishment (Well, I think they're actually Singaporean... but with a Korean name... I think la...). The charge I think is around RM30++ per head? But ok la... the food is good, and they have HALAL certification some more. So ok la :D Can eat insyaAllaah.

Oraitey... almost time to break fast. Seoul Garden... here we commeeee!!! ...

Ok la... I think I will pay... hehehe...

He shook my hand... while I was praying :P

Two days ago... I was a bit late for the Zuhr prayers at the USM mesjid [sebelah school je, so kalau tak turun melampau aa :P]. So I masbuq-ed (late) 1-rakaah. Anywayz... as I was praying the last rakaah, and sitting for the final tahhiyat, a man in his 40-s wanted to pass in front of me. Of course, we are all taught that you simply cannot pass directly in front of someone who is doing prayers... right? I mean, it's actually a big offense (is it a sin or big sin tho? can anyone please confirm this...). Unless of course there's an emergency and there is no other way to go except in front of the praying guy.

Anywayz... I sort'a realized that the guy was contemplating whether or not to pass. After a few seconds, he made the decision to pass. And in being a polite Malay... he adopted the ever famous custom of bowing a bit (jalan tunduk tu... tanda hormat nak lalu depan orang.... apa nama dia ek?) and started to walk.

As I saw him starting move, I immediately put my hand out as a gesture to halt him from going any further. As a result, he stopped for a few milliseconds... I believe this guy (as well as many other Malaysians) was not familiar with people doing this. I mean, what is this guy doing putting out his hand during prayers....???

Anywayz... after those milliseconds passed, he made up his mind... he actually reached for my hand, and gave me a hand shake. Walllaweeehhh......!!!!

I shook back to release his grip as well as to to signal "No... I am not asking for your hand in friendship or brotherhood... I am asking you not to pass....". But undeterred, he shook my hand anyway and just passed in front of me.

This was a first for me. LOL! At first I was a bit shocked, but at the same time I understood that not many people know about things related to what you can or can't do regarding solat.

For example... you can gesture during solat... No problem with that... as long as it's necessary and not overly excessive. Even scratching an itch! Some people believe that you can't scratch as it would invalidate the 3-movement rule... But think about it... The concentration level would be better if that itch was gone right? (I actually asked an 'alim about this)

And also... People know that you cannot pass directly in front of others who are performing solat. But somehow, they believe that by employing the jalan-tunduk (the sign of respect)... passing in front can be done. This is a definite NO-NO! Jalan tunduk macam mana pon, you cannot pass in front of someone performing prayers. You either have to wait... or find an alternative path.

I see this phenomenon happening so very often in mesjids around Malaysia... mostly due to misinformation (self-misinformation that is :P) I guess. I'm not an ustaz or hadith expert for that matter... but I think we should try to educate ourselves regarding these matters... ya?

Anywayz... that is what I experienced :D Quite an interesting thing... But at the same time, it was quite a serious offense. Because it violates the adab of solat... and I think it really2 makes Allaah angry. Mostly, people do NOT know the magnitude of the offense, and that's why many don't mind doing it! And worst... many take it rather lightly :(

So... after this... for those who are doing it... DO NOT PASS DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF PEOPLE DOING SOLAT! ... You can pass in front, but it must be at a certain distance. But never pass directly in front of his/her prostration area... as I think this is the limit!... (if this info. is wrong, please anyone, correct me...)

With all that being said... I sincerely hope that this the first and last time my hand gets shaken during prayers :) Shelamaat.

Some hadith I got regarding this from http://www.zaharuddin.net/content/view/726/89/:

* sutrah here... I think it refers to a divider sort'a thinggy... to indicate the area up to where your head lies when prostrating (sujud). If performing sunnah prayers, it would be good to put something in front of you... as I believe this is sunnah (some even say Wajib...). This could also serve as an indicator as to the limit of where people should not cross...
## But for those who know better, and seen that I have erred in giving these information... please correct me for I do not want to be the disseminator of false facts, especially pertaining to Islam :)

Baskin 31 Robbins, TESCO Gelugor (Penang) has IFANCA Canadian Halal Cert... BUT...

If many of you have followed my previous blog posts... they have been about halal haram stuff relating to health and fitness supplements, such as the GNC Protein Powder, and also the halal certified Ultimate Nutrition Prostar Whey Protein.

Today, I would still  like to talk a bit more about some halal and haram related issues... but this time... a more localized version of the problem. A few weeks back, I went to TESCO Penang (the one in Gelugor... not the Sungai Dua one) and was delighted to see an IFANCA sign on one of the Baskin 31 Robbins stalls. Great... even B31R have the awareness of halal and haram :D Good for them. But to my dismay, after careful inspection of the scanned and (color) printed certificate... it was not certification for the B31R booth that displayed it. The certificate was for branches in CANADA!

I think there were two branches named on that certificate saying that they were certified halal. It was definitely NOT for the Baskin 31 Robbins at TESCO Gelugor, Penang!

Some may argue... "Ok, Canada has already issued a halal statement for the Canadian branch. Then why should the Tesco Penang booth be doubtful?"...

For me... I would eat the ice cream served at those Canadian branches without an ounce of a doubt! :) That's because... IFANCA has already given the green light for those branches to be halal. And, when you think about it... why has IFANCA only given halal certs. to only those two named branches? Why wasn't it for the whole range of Baskin 31 Robbins throughout the world?

This, I strongly believe is because of the locality issue  :) I mean, even if you're a big franchise, you still get some of your ingredients locally (relatively near to where the branches are located). You won't import eggs, or gelatin from the States right? So, end up, you must buy some raw ingredients locally. As for the case of these Canadian branches, I believe that IFANCA has already inspected the raw materials as well as how all the stuffs has been prepared THERE... once satisfied and according to strict Islamic rules, the Halal certification is awarded.

So, how is it... that a branch of Baskin 31 Robbins, in TESCO Penang Malaysia... owns a halal certification for two Canadian branches... and not one for itself? Why has  the branch not asked for certification saying that they are halal, too? Certainly gets you doubting doesn't it.... Or... maybe the whole process is  too leceh?... so an easy way out is to scan a cert. obtained from Canada... :-? Hmmmmm.... If anyone knows why, please do share the info...

Anywayz... just some info I thought I'd share :D

Oh... and just got off the phone with one Ustazah Maznah from Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Pulau Pinang. According to her... for a booth/food court stall etc. to be halal... one of the requirements is for at least TWO of the workers be Muslims... and not just that... LOCAL Muslims. This is one of the less-strong requirements la... I say less strong, because who are they to ask their employers to buy halal-greade raw materials rite :P E.g.:

Tukang Masak: Boss aa.. lu make sure lu beli itu kicap ada cop halal, itu ayam ada cop halal, itu oyster sos ada cop halal ...

Boss: Who are you ha to tell me all this? (In Donald Trump fashion)... You're fired!

To me... hmmmm.... who ever came up with this idea. Kind'a pelik pon ada :( To be 'spies' ok la. But to enforce? Kalau hantar ketua pengawas Hendry Gurney pon tak jalan I think...

And... from my observation... Can't find that many (not even 2 :P) Malaysian Muslims working at the stalls at hypermarket food courts... Mostly I see foreigners...

Now I am just wondering... what the other requirements are.... Hopefully better and de BEST la :) For the sake of halal thoiyyiba food :D

Okes. Mari buat PhD. Man... Now I'm starting to think I'm in the wrong field! Should have done research relating to Halal Haram in Malaysia. Hahahaha!!!
Okes.. Selamaat

Is GNC Pro Performance Whey Protein Halal?

(there is an updated topic regarding Ultimate Nutrition's Halal Protein Powder... Please read it here)

Assalaam aleykom WBT :)

I was searching thru the Internet, as well as asking people at IFANCA regarding the Halal Whey Protein. From my searching, I think besides relying on IFANCA's halal certification, we can obtain the answers from the manufacturers of Whey Protein products... but of course, the 'right' sort of questions need to be asked :)

A few months back, I got into a bit of an argument of whether the GNC Pro Performance Whey Protein was a halal protein or not a halal protein supplement. Since they don't have halal certification for that particular product... I had to ask the manufacturer (GNC, USA). From them, I obtained this information:
  • No animal rennet (or other animal based enzymes are used) during the Whey extraction process.
  • The equipment used for the production of the GNC Pro Performance Whey Protein is the same equipment used to process other products that has animal derived ingredients. But, these equipments are thoroughly washed between processes.
Final Verdict? For me... since there's the equipment issue... to be safe, I treat it as haram. But again, if there is any other hukum (ruling) saying other wise, I'd appreciate the input and feedback :D Anyway... continuing my post....

Ever since my GNC Pro Performance Whey Protein case, I started to get a bit careful when even considering buying protein products, especially because the manufacturers are mostly (if not all) non-muslims. So, before even buying the product, the best thing to do is to ask :)And one thing might help also... get the Product Code before you ask the manufacturer, as manufacturers normally check based on product codes (for GNC at least).
Some useful questions that I could think of:

1) Is there any animal derived ingredients used to make the whey protein?
  • Asking this way, might be more understood by the manufacturer. Because, for one thing... if you know some animal 'parts' were used... there is a high probability (maybe even 100% probability) that the animal ingredient is non halal. This is due to the fact that the manufacturer is normally non-muslim, so if any animal ingredients are used, they would surely not have followed the Islamic way of obtaining it (by first slaughtering and then deriving).
  • But then again, there are some differences of opinions regarding this issue. I will not discuss it here because my knowledge in the field is almost non-existent! :D
2) What sort of enzyme, agent or catalyst is used during the extraction of whey from milk?
  • As some may know, whey is the by product when making cheese (if my memory serves me correctly). But anyhow... in order to extract they whey from the milk (to make cheese), a catalyst is used. It can either be animal based (enzyme), or fungal based. If it's the latter, then Alhamdulillaah! But if it's the former... then most probably it would be haram, as, again, mostly non-muslims are doing this process. And I highly doubt that the animals are slaughtered properly before making use of these enzymes (I think they use something called RENNET... which is derived from the inner stomach lining of calves... You can check this further by surfing the net)
3) Is there any alcohol involved during the whole process?
  • IFANCA has a guideline I think... regarding permissible amounts of alcohol in food. You can check at the IFANCA website at http://www.ifanca.org.
  • But normally, I don't think any alcohol is involved to make Whey Protein. But I can't be sure about other products. It won't hurt to ask though :D
4) Since you (the manufacturer) say that the enzyme being used is not of animal origin, is the whey protein product being processed on the same equipment used to process other products that contain animal based ingredients?

  • I relate this question with my GNC Pro Performance Whey Protein. At first, the manufacturer told me that they used fungal based enzymes... which made me happy! But after asking about the equipment... unfortunately they use the same equipments that they use to process other products (that has animal derived ingredients).
  • Again I state my stand that since the same equipment was used... I consider it haram. Because I am afraid of some 'contamination'. This is my stand...
Well... these are some questions that I had to ask. And alhamdulillaah... the manufacturer answered. But of course, you need to give them the complete detail of the product at hand (in my case, the Product Code and Product name). You can get these info from the store... in my case GNC Live Well. :)

I hope this post (for those who have found it), can be of some help. InsyaAllaah, if we strive hard enough, and ask the right questions... we are able to avoid the haram products and supplements.

I have come to know about one protein powder... from ULTIMATE NUTRITION (refer to my previous post...). But again, I only see the halal certification for their NATURAL flavor. They have other flavors such as chocolate, vanilla... and... others I guess. Maybe some more research needs to be done :)

Anyway... hope this has post been of use.
Jazzakallaah Khair.
Assalaam aleykom WBT.

BOYCOTT: The test is greater for others.

Chemical Weapon Victim in Ghaza. And they were looking for the stock piles of WMD at Saddam's house... Sheeesh...

(A good read for Malaysians at my bro's blog HERE)

In Malaysia, we're urged to boycott many western products that have links to the Zionist government of Israel. Famous brands such as McDonalds, KFC, Tesco and even Kit Kat has been named as products or services to be boycotted (is there such a word?). And cigarettes... that goes without saying! (Even Sampoerna has links somehow; I hear lah... from an Indonesian buddy... Gudang Garam takpe dia orang kata... for that's fully Indon made).

Well, I for one agree with this. We should try, to our best of capabilities, and avoid such products and services. Seriously, you won't die by not eating a Big Mac for the rest of your life. And Kit Kat has never been a healthy part of any nation's balanced diet! So, I think it's quite easy for use to avoid these... 'treats' of life :) If the craving's too powerful... substitute! Go for teh tarik at a mamak stall? Or make ure own burger! Just mince some meat, along with some herbs and spices... salt... peppah!.. make it into a patty... and VOILA! A burger is created... of course have to cook first lah, unless U are a true carnivore :)

But at the same time, I also realize the great many people who have their very livelihoods at stake. For instance, Muslims... who before, did not know (like many of us) about these ties to Zion. Inspiring entrepreneurs trying to make it big in the franchise business. Decided to open up a McDa's (this is how Ozzi's pronounce it), and yeahoo!!! The bucks are coming in. For these people, yes it will be hard. Very HARD as a matter of fact. Because, how do you boycott your income stream that has been feeding yer family for the past... i dunno... 10-30 years? And not to mention the great lifestyle that these people have grown accustomed to from their hard earned cash....

It's easy for me... a govt... well, semi- govt. servant to say. I am not incrementing my life's savings based on a franchise... or by managing a hypermarket chain that has ties to suku sakats of Ariel Sharon :( .... So... I also dunno la. How to say :( For the normal workers... well... that should be no problem, because work at fast food chains for example, is normally part time. Even the managers aren't earning a bow-wow of an income at these places. So I think to berhenti is almost a no brainer (almost la... ada gak faktor2 lain). But for the owners... man, will it be hard. If I continue, I am a Zionist supporter in more ways than 1. If I stop... Aiya... how to feed mon famille?

But in the end, it's a test. Everything comes from Allaah. From the things that we would generally positively expect (such as $$$, food, cars, houses etc.), and also things that we would negatively expect (e.g. illness, business gone bad, accidents, divorce etc.). ALSO... are the things that we DONT expect :) Of course there are also the negatives and positives in this area also...

But back to the point where everything comes from Allaah. If the BIG PICTURE IS... to try and cripple the Zionist domination of the world... then I think the call should be accepted. This would mean to quit the profitable businesses... To stop any relation with any Zion based money making schemes etc. I realize the test is HUMONGOUS! COLOSSAL as a matter of fact. But as responsible Muslims... who really2 abhor what happened in the Gaza strip... we should take the challenge.

I for one... again realize that I am just talking here. Because it's not my livelihood at stake. And not the livelihood of my family members. I am for one (and I am not saying this with joy), am a bit glad this responsibility, this test, has not fallen on me. I am only responsible to play my small role of avoiding products and services that I know have links to Israel, and also possibly other actions that can contribute to my not supporting them. But for big businesses owned by Muslims, who know they are owned by the bad Jews... the test is heavy. Really heavy. To stop working means a lot.

But then again, there are other things that can be done. I mean... like many rich people say, Rezeki ada di mana mana :) And one rich man once said, there's a TON of money out there... you just gotta know how to get it :D So, maybe for those affected... boleh try to do something else? I dunnno. I really dunno what to rekemen. But what I do know... the support must stop.

I think a worth remembering note is that... God tests the best of us with the heaviest of tests... Hmmmm....

A word of inspiration though... God is fair. God gives to those who deserve... those who have sacrificed... for those who go on the right path... God's reward will be there... and most of the time, it's from the Positive Unexpected part :) insyaAllaah...

okes... selamat :D

Covering the right place, but at the same time NOT covering the 'wrong' places :)

My attention has been brought to an issue... one concerning ubiquity :) Ubiquity of a fashion induced confusion... and sorry to say... is affecting women. But please do not label me as a male chauvinist pig, or someone who naturally belittles women! I am no such creature. Because every time I hear a man saying bad things about women... I quickly ask them... "Is you mother not a woman?"... then I laugh and eat my food :D Hahahahaha!!! Anwyayz...

I would like to talk about the weird fashion surrounding hijab... or veil (tudung) wearing girls :)

My post is not to preach for non-veil-wearing women to wear veils (even though that would be good), but instead, I'd just like to voice out my point of view regarding the 'confusion', or STUPIDITY of some veil-wearing muslimahs who are making a mockery of the whole concept of aurat itself.

It seems that in today's society, the concept of 'tutup aurat' (or covering up) for women would mean... SIMPLY... to wear the tudung. I have to disagree that putting on the veil would solve the aurat problem itself :( Of course, it is usually the last place most women decide to completely cover up... but in all, it will not solve the problem of aurat as a whole.

As a matter of fact, I think just by adopting this notion is outlandishly fallacious and in some (MANY!!!) cases, a mockery to Islam itself. (Please do not conjure up opinions that I am against the tudung. I am ALL FOR it! I even considered beating up Datuk-K to ge to Siti when she decided to cover her head. Hua hua hua! Ok, jz kidding...)

To cut things short, many veil-wearing-women in Malaysia (and also around the world) seem to have failed to capture the concept of the hijab, and covering up itself. I mean... ok. Wearing the tudung is a GREAT step towards getting closer to Allaah... Alhamdulillaah! :D But when you cover up your hair, and let other body parts loose... I mean... Ok... something might not be right here... but where? Where is it not right? ... oraitey... now I see it (them)... the other body partssss... other than the hairrrrrr.....

I know... everyone sees this, and many have written about it. But I am going to be blunt. Very2 blunt :) (Sorry in advance if I might offend anyone).

I would first like to bring forward an example that maybe (AND HOPEFULLY), only married people would be able to directly relate to. Non-married people can of course... indirectly relate :D

When a man and a woman get in bed together... will the hair be the body part that is most paid attention to first? Ok... some might caress the partner's hair a bit before getting on with whatever it is they want to do... but the main point (or POINTS) of attraction for men, will not be the top of the head! Betui tak? Unless of course there is a TV-set showing Liverpool vs Manchester United popping out of yer wife's forehead :P
(At the same time also, I won't be saying which parts are of more interest lah... because that would be too blunt :P and also it is a matter of personal preference. Hahahahaha! ok ok...)

Anyway, the point being here is that... some cover their hair... but let other parts dangle. They cover their hair, but wear tight slacks (seriously, slacks are more 'revealing' and interesting to view compared to jeans :P) that clearly show the shape of the buns and the curves of the thighs and legs. They cover their hair but put on jumpers and t-shirts that CLEARLY show the shape of the boobies... They cover their hair but at the same time showing the 'valleys' of revenge (I personally saw this yesterday at a USM bus stop. Of course (I DONT KNOW WHY!!!!), I only looked for a while during the first gaze. Bila dah ada chan, takde plak tengok lama lama... ish. Hahahahahaha!!!!).

In all, they cover their hair, but let the other... more desirable parts show (or, most of time... covered up tighly :P)

This is the confusion that I am talking about :) I don't know why this confusion can even exist for those who choose the way of the veil... because IMHO, the very act of choosing to cover up must have been motivated by the perception that one is 'revealing' too much to non-deserving parties, and one fears that this will incur the wrath of the Lord.

But in the light of the fashion world today, I am able to understand why this is happening. With the influence of the media, the west of course, bollywood, peers as well as Barrat Obama (ok, I don't know how he fits into the picture here), some veil-wearing-women sometimes justify in their minds that as long as there's a piece of cloth covering the hair... all is ok :) I mean hecks... this happens with guys too... only our case normally goes along the line of wearing shorts (and I have to say that fortunately, we do not have that much to show anyway :P).

At the same time of writing, I also realize that there is also the faction of people who will say... "Oh COME ON guys! GROW UP!!! Get used to it!!!".

I beg to differ here. Compare a 7-year old innocent boy, and a NORMAL 19-year old hormone raged teenager (and also, 35++ year old men for that matter :P). If a naked sexy bikini model were to be put before them, who would you think would shut their eyes and blush away in shame? I really2 think the older guys would RUN AWAY IN FEAR!!!! hehehe... yeah rite.

It's the very fact of GROWING UP that makes the world population prosper! Men get attracted to women (especially when provided with visual stimuli)... and vice versa. Only grown up people can 'appreciate' the opposite sex in a manner of physical appearance. So, gowing up is in proportion with physical attraction. But of course, growing up is different from growing OLD... as the hormones start to diminsh during this period, and mostly... many 'drives' are slowly put to rest :)

So, at the same time some women are asking men to not to get too interested in the female-physique, at the same time also they are asking us men to try our best to 'horny-ize' ourselves so that the world's population will not diminish :D I mean... macam betul la kan? Kekekekeke.... A different point of view... but somehow true.

Anywayz... back to the point of revealing-veil-wearing-chicks. I am not saying I have a solution for the issue. And I am not saying that I am an alim ulama as well :P And I also cannot guarantee that people closest to me (family, good frens etc) are not one of these people.

I am just voicing out what I think. I don't think that is a crime. even in Switzerland :D All I am saying is that... it's a confusion :) Really. And from here, I can sometimes infer that some non-veil-wearing-girls are smarter... in a way lah. Because even tho they are not wearing the tudung... but they are not making a mockery of the concept itself. But of course... an extra bit of cloth won't hurt :D kekekekeke....

Ok. Tu je kot. I know guys also ada issues... if U think there are and we don't realize them, plz bagi tau :D Insya-Allaah, I (and hopefully all other gusy) are willing to accept. It's easier to judge other parties than you own self (or 'species' for that matter)

Okes. Panjang sangat dah. bye bye!!! :D

Ramadhan Hoax... Every Year?

Assalaam aleykom WBT and A Good Day to All :)

As you all know, we are almost entering the end of the Ramadhaan holy month. A sad time for many Muslims, for this is a month full of Allaah's bounties... A month filled with blessings... and THE month that has the Night of Qadr where if you perform prayers for example, you would get the merit and benefits of a thousand nights! Fuih... beats any bonus I ever heard about :D

Anywayz! The point of this post, even though a bit late in the month... is not about gaining merit... but about the possible promise of false merit? What I am talking about here are the nightly benefits that Muslims will get for each night of Taraweeh prayers...

As you all know (or for those of you who don't)... each year during Ramadhaan, or even before Ramadhaan, many will be receiving emails mentioning the benefits or 'ganjaran' Muslims will get for each night of Taraweeh. Among them are:

First Night - The sins of a mukmin (believer) will be cleared; a clean sheet as a new born infant (Allaah will forgive ALL his/her sins)
.
.
.
Fourth Night - Receives the benefits (pahala) similar to those people who read the Taurah, Zabur, Injil and Al-Quran

etc... Etc... Until the 30th night.

But I believe that not many know... based on some reliable sources (e.g.: http://mufti.islam.gov.my/terengganu/?subid=10&parent=06), this might be one of the biggest hoax to have hit Malaysian masjids :( And maybe the world? If it's being spread worldwide la I mean....

Because according to the Mufti of Terengganu website, as well as this one Singaporean mufti's (or was he an influential imam, lupa...) website also (forget the URL), this hadith, purportedly given by Saidina Ali (Karamallaahu Wajhah) from Prophet Muhammad (May Peace be Upon Him) is false :( It's being made up by human beings of the modern age.

When you really think about it... the ramifications can be quite severe. Spiritually I mean. Ok... let me try to explain what I think (and please do correct me, for I am not an ulama or even an ustaz... just an ordinary Muslim seeking the truth in today's society of information overload :P)

People will be overjoyed due to the extra pahala they'd get. Like the first night... SIN CLEANSING!!! Sapa tak nak? Terus jadik baby balik... ZERO dosa :) So, many, I believe, will go to prayer with this intention in mind. Whereas, it is something conjured up by... ntah sapa? :) And it's false hope, if betul la this is a false hadith.

And at one point... if one's heart is so fixed on these benefits (these different pahalas each nite), the true intention of prayers might be lost :( Taraweeh after all, is the same as any other Sunnah prayer. As a matter of fact, I heard in a talk that it won't even be among the top 5 (or was it 10?) sunnah prayers to be questioned by God during the day of judgement...

Anywayz...

This is my view lah :) This supposedly false hadith (and I strongly believe it is!), could do harm in it's own small way. Even though the contents are good, it instills false hope... and at the same time could tarnish the image of the prophet himself. I mean, he didn't say it... and some people are claiming he did?

But I believe that some people would still defend the act of spreading such hadith. I can imagine reactions such as:

"At least orang pergi jugak masjid. Penuh la jugak masjid tu, walaupun utk ~1 bulan dalam setahun"

OR

"Alaa... takde apa sangat la. Ini kan benda baik. Semua dalam list tu baik. Lagi semangat la orang nak semayang terawih..."

Kot2 la... :D

Anywayz.... the main point here is that, these nightly promises... might be one of the biggest hoax to have ever hit Malaysian air-waves :D hehehe. But then again, I haven't fully done my homework. Based on the numerous 'sheiks' I've interviewed, as well as some surfing done on the Internet, and also talks with supposedly 'alim friends... it is almost confirmed that these claims are in the same boat as the Lochness Monster.

Okes. Anyway, if anyone has otehr views... or a strong factual source that can rebut this entry, please do tell us all :) FOr if indeed this hadeeth is true... then I won't want to be the one to nullify it. Hehehehehe... I've already got so much sin... Kang bertambah pulak saham Jahannam aku :P

Orait. Assalaam aleykom WBT dan Salaamat Menyambut Syawal...

Will Ramadhan Reveal Your Six Pack?

Maybe some might be thinking that, Ramadan will be the month that he/she will lose lots of weight :) While indeed this most probably might be the case... the holy month of Ramadan is not a weight lost fest :P To me, it's more of a practice month... a practice for patience and also piety. To see how obedient one is to God's ruling of the fast. After all... fasting bukan la semata2 tak makan ye dok? Yer eyes must fast (no looking at naughty2 and bad2 stuff), yer ears must fast (avoid listening to unnecessary gossip for example) and yer mouth must fast as well (do not talk bad about others)... Oh... and of course, there's the fast for husbands and wife also... But at least that one you only need to 'tahan' during the day time. Malam time insya-Allaah can... hehehe :D

Ok ok ok... Back to the six pack question. Okes. In my humble opinion... most probably NO! :D Yes you will lose some weight insya-Allaah. But most of the weight lost during fasting is not fat weight. It will be water and muscle weight. Fat needs to be thrown away in order for those ketul-ketuls to be seen on your belly :)

Reason for losing muscle and water more than losing plain-old-fat? Ok. Dia macam ni...

Our body is smart. Subhanallaah and Masha-Allaah. God created such an intelligent system. The body operates with a defense mechanism built in. It's called the STARVATION ALERT! (Ok, that name, saya yang kasik... :P). Basically, what happens is this...

When you restrict food quantity, the body automatically detects this. It will think that the body is going into what is called STARVATION MODE (this one is not a term I coined up. Ada mentioned dalam a few books). When this happens, the body will take some precautions to sustain life, as it is now detecting that you, the owner of the body, might be facing DEATH! Hence it will:

1. Refrain from burning too much energy... hence DECREASING METABOLISM! You end up burning energy less efficiently. This is good if you're really facing famine.

2. Burn energy from the active cells first. That's why the body burns off MUSCLE first. Because muscles are active cells... and they'd use up all the energy before you know it! This is not what you'd want in a famine situation. Water is also used in abundance... FAT? Haaa... FAT dia tak bakar as a primary source. Since fat burns the slowest, it is reserved for the worst case scenario... where all energy resources dah depleted...

Ok. So, basically, these two will happen :) So how does this relate to abs being visible? Okes. We basically have SKIN... and FAT... and MUSCLE. Like the Holy Quran explains... (skipping the semen and blood parts) There's firstly bone, and wrapped around bones are flesh... then skin comes into the picture :) It's exactly like that... only that flesh is divided into two... MEAT (Muscle) and FAT (Fat lah!).

Skin covers Flesh... and the closest flesh to the skin is FAT. So, if you have less fat, then your muscles will be more viewable... visible. Jadik, how to get that six pack ab? Of course... reduce fat (while of course maintaining muscle mass to a certain level). Since we are now in Ramadan, and will be practising entering starvation mode... most likely, body fat levels will not plummet.

IN CONCLUSION... No, Ramadan will most probably not reveal your six packs :) Unless of course you're already naturally vascular and muscular. Kalau macam tu mmg tak aci la. Hehehehe....

Okes. Jika tidak faham apa2, please shout at me in the SHOUTBOX below! Selamat Berpuasa and Happy Controlling Your Urges!!!!

THE HEADLESS JEMAAH!!!

Sometimes, especially during Friday prayers, some... some people will TER-fall asleep. So, when they fall asleep, if you look at them from the back, it would really2 seem like they are HEADLESS! Macam Sleepy Hollow la pulak iye?
(tapi, tuan punya blog ni pon ada gak le beberapa kali jadik headless... hehehe...)
Anywayz, just thought I'd share a pic I got from the mesjid, that shows how a HEADLESS JEMAAH looks like. Even tho this was not taken during Jumaat jemaah prayers, it is exactly how a sleeping person will look like from the back :D
But aa... really, we should not sleep during the khtubah, for many good points would be missed. But then again, khatibs should not just follow script. I think they need to be able to beef up the presentation a bit :D Make it more lively (even though not interactive, for Jemaah's must be quite during khutbah). Make the topics interesting :D Some khatibs do a good job... but a great many read scripts.
But tapi takpe (dah BUT, TAPI lagi... redundant tul la aku ni)... You can't win 'em all. I think we need to make the best of what we get... especially stuff that we don't have that much control over (such as less lively khatibs) :D Try to listen to what the khutbah is about... get the important points... and then... APPLY to life :D Insya-Allaah, all will be ok... :)

SAF lagi :)

Gambar diambil daripada http://muslimz87.blogs.friendster.com/photos/kem_solat_smkt_2007/100_1111.jpg

Soklan ni saya rasa macam pernah nak tanya... tapi macam tak pernah tanya kot? Ke dah tanya? Hmmm... takpa... tanya lagi.

Okes. Ni dari segi SAF solat... lagi sekali :) Kita selalu dengar ceramah2, even ada sekali tu KHUTBAH JUMAAT ada cerita pasal kebaikan saf. Saf depan tu is da best ye dok? Tapi Nabi cakap it's da best place to solat la.

Soklan saya...

Selalunya, kalau lepas2 Azan tu, saya perasan la... ramai orang2 Malaysia kita akan solat sunat dulu (which is good)... tapi ramai yang akan solat kat saf2 belakaaang... dan sikit sekali solat dekat saf2 hadapan. Tapi tu takpe la... since baru solat sunat. Tapi in the end, bila it's time for solat Fardhu tu... cukup slow utk memenuhkan ruangan depan...

Jadi kita kasik dia cekup pahle banyak2 sebelum kembali ke Rahmatullaaah.
  2. Bak kata satu riwayat hadith (tapi tak sure Dhaif atau Sahih), "Sebaik2 Manusia Ialah Mereka Yang Banyak Memberi Manfaat Kepada Orang Laiiinnn".

Tapi tu la... just nak tanya kot2 sapa yg lebih arif...

Dia dok cerita pasal, kalau orang tau la pasal ke-BEST-an sauf depan ni, nescaya dia orang akan berebut or something like that. Wallahu alam :)

Apa kata surveyyyy...?

Sila kemukakan... tapi, seperti biasa... jgn lah sebarkan ajaran Ayah Peng bin Jaaper. Hehehehe...

Pesanan Pak Cik Berjanggut Educated

Haaaaa.... Kalau dah berjanggut putih... berjubah putih tu.... Haaaaaa......

Simple... yet makes great sense. So, utk kita2 yang rasa ilmu agama tak berapa nak power sampai ke tahap wali ataupun pon at least imam... berpegang kepada pesanan2 ni pon dah kira ok saya rasa :) .... ni pandangan saya la tapi :) Okes... selamat ber-reading ek....

==============

Assalamualaikum,
Just wanna share with everyone kisah benar yang saya lalui.

Pertama, kata beliau, surah Al-Fatihah.
(Mintak tunjuk jalan betul is part ni kalau tak silap:
Ih di nassi raa thol musta qeem ... waladdhaaaaaaalllinnnn)

Kedua, Surah Al-Ikhlas.

Ketiga, surah Al-Kafirun, kata pak cik.
untukmu agamamu, untukku agamaku'.

Kedua, kekuatan hati.

Ketiga, kuat fizikal.

==============

Gambar bawah ni takde kaitan ngan post atas. Tapi since takde gambar pak cik berjanggut dan berjubah putih tu, maka saya letak la gambar apa apa.

Nama penuh, Osama Mohd. Radi Alia. Tu dia... sampai datuk moyang!!! Dia jawab... benda ni memang ada dibuat... As a matter of fact ialah SUNNAH Rasulullaah utk duduk senget ni. Maknanya, Subuh dan solat2 sunat 2-rekaat, mmg takyah duduk senget tu :) (Ada term utk duduk senget ni, tapi saya tak ingat la pulak apa dia...)

Jadi, just wondering, kalau sapa2 buleh confirmkan benda ni. Bila fikir2 balik, betul la jugak. Ramai kawan2 saya kat Oztralia dulu, yang dari negara2 lain, jarang sekali saya tengok dia orang implement duduk2 senget ni masa solat sunat. Selalu duduk straight macam tahyat awal...

Bila fikir tentang keadaan kita kat Malaysia ni... mungkin betul jugak apa kawan saya dari Jordan tu kata (it's Sunnah for 3-rekaat and above). Sebab apa, kebanyakan benda2 dalam solat, kita just follow apa yang diajar ye dok? Dan selalu, kalau tak sure, kita ikut je movement imam atau orang yang pakai kepiah dan berjinggut panjang :) Bukan la nak kata dia orang salah ke apa ke... cuma point saya ialah, kita buat sebab ikut orang yg kita rasa lagi alim... tanpa memikirkan apa pasaaal kita buat benda tu.

Hehehehe. Ni hanyalah observasi saya... dan hanya sekadar renungan. Kalau2 saya ada tersilap fakta... harap2 dibetulkan! Taknak plak saya dichas Ayah Peng Troxion! Hehehehehe.

Okes... Selamaaaat

Assalaam aleykom WBT

To Jemaah or NOT To Jemaah - Susah nye nak buat decicion?... NOT!

Assalaam 'aleykom WBT dan Salam Sejahtera

Post kali ni, berbentuk alim2 sket :D Jangan mare ye. Saya pon bukan la orang alim, tapi nak gak kongsi pendapat tentang hal2 agama. Kot2 leh jadik pengajaran ye dok?

Prefer semayang seorang diri...

Solat Zuhr Solo2

Solo Act Lagi depan belakang

Saya bukan nak eksyen cerita saya pernah ke seberang laut ke apa... tapi masa saya kat Monash dulu, geng2 Islam (yg bukan dari Malaysia n Indo) mmg akan GERENTI 'ketuk' bahu orang lain yg tengah semayang supaya masuk dalam keadaan berjemaah. Ye la kan... at least, pahala dia lebih sikit.

  1. Takut orang tu semayang sunat ke apa ke... so to be safe, baik takyah ketuk :)

  2. Bukan semua orang buleh jadik imaaam. Jadi baik aku semayang kat ceruk2 yang orang tak buleh nak ketuk bahu aku. (kueng kueng kuengggg :P)

  3. Aramak, aku nak semayang cepat... tak sempat nak berimam2 ni.

Dan lain2 lagi. TAPI! Most of the time... tak ada alasan pon. ye dok? :)

My point here is that... Apaaa la salahnya berimam ye dok :)

Maybe takut orang tu semayang lain kot? Contoh... solat Jamak Qasr? Walhal kita pada time tu nak solat Zuhur berjemaah? Hmmmmm.... Based on satu pendapat tu... dia macam ni.

Contoh:

Amhad Termimi Serigar ketuk bahu Salman Khan Kadheer, utk berjemaah solat Zuhur. Masa tu Salman Khan Khadeer tengah semayang solat ASAR sebenarnya! Dia dok tengah buat bahagian kedua solat Jamak (Taqdim) Qasr Zuhur-Asar.

Since Salman Khan Kadheer tak tahu camne nak kasik tau kat Ahmad Tarmimi Serigar yg dia tengah semayang combine + truncate, maka dia pon terusss je la solat. Ahmad Tarmimi Serigar pon syok la, pasal dapat semayang berjemaah (something to be happy about indeed).

Belakang, lepas 2 rekaat, Salman Khan Khadeer tarus kasik salaam... Tapi... saya rasa la... yang penting is that Ahmad Tarmimi Serigar dah buat effort utk berjemaah. I believe this is indeed worth something in God's book :)

Saya rasa la, kita kena try2 gak buat pahle lebih ye dok :) Nak kurangkan masa kat Nuraka la katakaan. Hehehehehe.

Hahahahaha! Khatib dok khutbah, aku dok snap gambo curi2. Tapi takpe... Harap2 tak la hilang pahle Jemaat. At least saya tak berkata kata :D

Okess.. Adios muchachos dan Assalaam 'aleykom WBT.
